Five Ways to Use Essential Oils

Welcome to Essential Oils part two!

Last time I talked about Essential Oils, which you can find here, I was very new to it. When I first started using Essential Oils, I thought they were mostly used for aromatherapy but there are SO many different ways to use them…the options are endless really.

Here are the five ways I’ve been using my oils…

1- Skin Care

As I’ve mentioned before in my Makeup Routine Post, I’ve been going through some hormonal breakouts. Thankfully, I discovered Frankincense Essential Oil. Some people see it as the holly grail of Essential Oils and I must say, I am one of them. It’s most commonly known for its anti-aging, scars, stretch marks and acne benefits.

I made my own night time serum which consists of 3 tablespoons of Apricot Oil mixed in with 10 drops of Frankincense Essential Oil. My skin absorbs it so well and leaves it soft and glowing. I sometimes use my regular moisturizer and add one drop of Frankincense oil to it before applying it on my face.

2- Eczema

I sometimes get Eczema around my ears and neck and once it starts, it lingers forever. I’ve tried a Hydrocortisone cream but it seemed to be more of an instant fix. After doing some research, I learned that Lavender is one of the best oils for healing skin such as eczema, cuts and burns.

I mix the Lavender with some Apricot Oil and apply it on my Eczema at night and in the morning.

3- Relax

Lavender is also knows to be the best oil for relaxation. Again, I mix it with some apricot oil before applying it behind my ears and sometimes on my feet before bed. I also diffuse it in the evening while I’m reading in bed. Trust me, your sleep game will be on a whole other level!

I pre-mix my essential oils with some Apricot Oil in these Glass Dropper Bottles. I’m more consistent with using my oils if they are pre-mixed with a carrier oil…seems like less work every time. It’s very important to mix your oils with a carrier oil if you are using them topically. Not only for safety reasons but it makes the oils more effective. Without a carrier oil, it evaporates before it can be absorbed in the skin.

4- Headache

Peppermint is excellent when it comes to headaches. I actually keep it in my purse at all times. I’ve been getting a lot of headaches lately since I’ve been trying to cut out coffee…I know, what am I thinking?! So I add a little bit of oil to my temples and take a few whiffs of it directly from the bottle.

5- Cleaner

I’ve been wanting/trying to get rid of all toxin cleaners in the house so I started off with making my own multi-purpose cleaner. I mixed 1/2 cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of water and 20 drops of lemon oil and 5 drops of lavender oil. The Essential Oils masks the smell of the vinegar and I love the combination of lemon and lavender oil in the air. If you still find the smell of vinegar too strong, you can add more oil.

I mix my Multi Purpose Cleaner in these Glass Spray Bottles. It’s very important to use glass bottles, especially if you are using Lemon Essential Oils.

    Well, I don’t use essential oils… mainly because I never understood what to do with them! Thanks for the tips – I think I will try some of these!
